We experienced a mini-flood when the washing machine drain hose became dislodged from the drain pipe. I unplugged both washer and dryer and began mopping up, and I was re-attaching the drain hose when I received a pretty good shock from the washing machine chassis. With my multimeter I measured 85 volts AC between the unplugged machine chassis and the cold water pipe??? Is it possible some of the interior electrical components (probably wet) are retaining an electrical charge??I received an electric shock from an unplugged washing machine.?
Check the voltage again between the machine chassis and the cold water pipe. If still live switch off the entire power supply including all MCBs or Fuses, as suggested by Craig W. Now check the voltage again - hopefully it is now gone.
If it has gone switch one MCB/Fuse and check the voltage - if no voltage, switch off that MCB/Fuse. Switch on the next MCB/Fuse the voltage - if no voltage, switch off that MCB/Fuse.
In this way check each circuit individually until you find the one(s) {there could be more than one or even all (which is unlikely) of them} which gives rise to the voltage.
Another matter to check with your multimeter is which is live and which is neutral/earth - that is to say is the cold water pipe live or is the machine chassis live?
If the cold water pipe is live there is some connection to it from a live wire which could be due to a water connection arising from the flood.
If the machine is live it has to be a water connection.
Hopefully by now you will have found the defective circuit which you will leave switched off. It being the weekend electricians may a little scarce on the ground and the flood will begin to dry out and with a bit of luck the stray voltage will disappear. At 85 volts the reading is not a full line to earth voltage of 220 or even 110.
I would say that a bare live wire was accessed by water to cause this.
This illustrates the reason for all those irksome regulations regarding electric installations. All your power circuits should be controlled by RCDs (also known as ELCBs) which would trip the circuit out at a current flowing to earth of as little as 30mA (which would not harm you) assuming that was the rating of the RCD which was installed. This you should have installed with MCBs instead of fuses when all this excitement has passed by.
You also need a properly installed earth system consisting of An Earth Rod which is connected to and Earth Box into which are connected all earths from the various circuits around the house and which Earth Box is also connected to the Neutral on the Supply side of the Meter - all checked for continuity and resistance by a registered electrician.
You should not regard this as a disaster - it is rather an opportunity to correct defects with, thankfully, no real damage done.
Good luck and be Careful out there.I received an electric shock from an unplugged washing machine.?
I wonder if you have a secondary fault in your house and your cold water pipe is actually ';live'; because it is not earthed properly.
Try switching off the power to the whole house and try measuring the voltage again.
Another test would be to hammer in a large earth rod etc. into your garden and measuring the voltage between the earth spike and the cold water pipe.
If you don't know what you are doing then you need to get an electrician in quickly though (just in case you kill yourself).
You have something more wrong with your electrics, any condencer retaining a charge will discharge in one foul surge so I suggest you disconect the earth from your water supply then forget your washing m/c and check for any voltage between your copper plumbing and a good earth, try the earth point on your socket with the plumbing detatched, my guess is the wall could be damp making a ciruit between the power point and the plumbing
yes and you were standing on either a wet floor or in water at the time. There could also be a ground short

Beko Washing Machine - Tripping the electric!!?
I have had this Washing Machine for about 15 months. The problem is as soon as we plug it in, it trips out all the electric in our house. We don't even have to press the on switch. We cannot get any power to it what so ever! My Husband is quite good at fixing things so if anyone has an idea what the problem is, he should be able to fix it as long as it isn't too complicated.
Thanks very much in advance.
Sarah
I should mention that there are no kinks in the pipe's and we have tried changing the fuse, but it hasn't helped at all. ThankyouBeko Washing Machine - Tripping the electric!!?
This is a job for an electrician, the power amps in your electric circuitry is not enough to sustain and power the washing machine.facial peels

My child wet my bed. it soaked through to electric blanket. it can't be washed. how do i clean this area?
Professionally dry cleaned is best or sponge it own with warm soapy water.
But check the tags attached to the blanket... there are sometimes washing instructions. My child wet my bed. it soaked through to electric blanket. it can't be washed. how do i clean this area?
Try putting only a little water in the bottom of a bath and only soaking the area that i stained. Dishwashing liquid is good for this as it s very bubblyMy child wet my bed. it soaked through to electric blanket. it can't be washed. how do i clean this area?
You could start by sprinkling with baby powder this takes the smell out and absorbs most of the urine. It is a good start, did it heaps when my kids were small and bed wetters Good luck .

Electric shock, twin tub washing machine?
I got an old hitachi twin tub yesterday, it works great (and beats hand washing!) but the dials give a mild electric shock - it doesn't hurt, its just like a static shock. To get around this, Ive been using tongs with a rubber end to turn the dials, so I don't have to touch them. I don't mind doing this, but does anyone know if its dangerous? Could I still get shocked this way? Also, does anyone know how to fix it? I was thinking about putting rubber tape around the dials, but is there an easier way?
Please don't bother telling me to buy a new one - I cant.
Thanks!Electric shock, twin tub washing machine?
This indicates the ground wire is not working , , , potential serious shock hazard especially around water and if you are using 220 V in your country.
First thing to do is check that the house ground is working and installed properly . Only takes a few minutes to check everything and anyone with a little electrical knowledge can help you with that
Then make sure the outlet ground is working , then the plug must have three wires not two and all extension cords must carry this third wire and connect to the house ground . This is a critical safety factor for any major appliance especially if there is exposed metal parts.
I would also take the cover off the top control panel , also very easy with a philips screw driver , washer unplugged of course , make sure there is no damage inside from rats, cockroaches etc. which love to chew the insulation off wires in tropical regions especially . Also turn the machine on its side and have a good look underneath for any damage. If there is, you will have to get help to replace wires , not that difficult for someone with general electrical knowledge. Be sure to inspect the green ground wire that connects to the metal cover of the washer near the bottom . If it looks rusty or is not making a good connection, reconnect it. Also there should be one connected to the metal parts at the control knobs etc.
If it is all clear on the machine itself , and you found a problem with the wire or ground system ( the ground wire should start from a metal rod driven deep into the ground near the electrical box outside the house.)
you can assume the electric shock was caused by static electricity buildup. This in itself is not dangerous, it just indicates there is a danger of a full lines voltage shock , which can be fatal, like in the case of a bare wire touching any metal .
A final note , please be careful if you are pouring any water over the electrical control panel , as water conducts electricity , this is just like pouring a bunch of bare wires on it. Keep the machine dry underneath and well out of reach of any blowing rain . If water splashes near he bottom it can splash back up and wet all the motor parts etc.
If you need any more help just contact me from the address you will find if you double click on my picture. I can phone you free from here also if necessary . . .Electric shock, twin tub washing machine?
You should get it checked out. It could be that the insulation has frayed from a wire, and it is touching the metal of the machine. If so, it could get worse, and give you, or someone else who touches it, a severe electric shock. Insulating the dials will not solve the problem. Any metal part, or even the water you use in it, can become 'live'
be careful you can have a fire, most house fires are from electrical, and candles and cooking. be careful
it's not normal. you can get killed if you're not careful. Please don't let the tub drain the living life out of you.
electrical tape might work but you really need to ground the machine to something if you look at the back of the machine you will probably see a green or bare copper wire if there is a metal water pipe nearby extend and connect the wire to that pipe with a clamp of some kind so it is secure if there is no metal pipe around unscrew the plate covering the outlet if the box in the wall is made from metal you can attach it to one of the screws holding the outlet to the box if there is no green or bare wire you can attach a wire 10 gauge or thicker to the machine on any metal part preferably a spot that touches the dials or close to it with a screw making sure the wire touches bare metal and follow the above steps, this is a very dangerous situation if for some reason your washer overflows and you are standing in water when you touch the dial it could kill you, this is best handled by an electrician and if you follow the steps above and it still shocks you you should get an electrician to fix this.
Sounds like there is a breakdown in insulation somewhere. I would get a sympathetic electrician to look at it. I would also suggest having the fuses or mcb's in the fusebox looked at at the same time as a current leakage like this ought to trip the breaker for that particular circuit.
Please don't bother telling me to buy a new one - I cant.

My washing machine keeps giving me an electric shock, why is this? and do I need a new one or is it repairable?
It is quite likely to be the earth connection is broken on your house wiring
This needs be checked by a qualified electrician.
You also need to have your RCD checked as if you are getting electric shocks itt should be trippingMy washing machine keeps giving me an electric shock, why is this? and do I need a new one or is it repairable?
Before you do anything else, if the washer is old and has a two-prong plug, pull it out, turn it 180 degrees and reinsert it. You can not do this with a polarized plug, but it has cured a lot of shocking instances in the past.
You may also want to get a tester to see which wires are hot (charged) and which are not. It is possible for a receptacle to be miswired with the connections reversed.
If reversing the plug doesn't work and the recptacle polarity is correct, then yes, it is time to have it looked at. If someone has cut off the grounding prong to allow it to be used in a two-prong outlet, you need to find that person and thrash him severely about the head and face.My washing machine keeps giving me an electric shock, why is this? and do I need a new one or is it repairable?
It's likely to be the house wiring (or you have trapped the flex and it's worn through) . You can check the flex yourself, but you'll have to get an electrician to check the house wiring.
Why so many people think that all houses have RCDs is beyond me! they appear in roughly 20% of the housing stock in the UK...
I have never heard of ';earthed';. In the US we call it grounded. So either the plug has been rigged to have only the two prongs or it is damaged.
Needless to say water and an ungrounded washer is a combination which could cause a short and sparking which would lead to a fire or electrical shock. Have a serviceman come out and redo the cord. This shouldn't cost that much - less than $75. If the washer is really old look for a scratch and dent model, in the paper or craigslist.com.
Is this a static shock or a mains electrical shock which can be minor if you are poorly earthed. My advice at the very least would be to get someone to look at it. In fact I would say do not use it until you know it is safe to use.
It has something shorting out. Don't use it and call a repair man. It could kill you. It should be grounded but even if it's not it shouldn't shock. As far as static electricity it would follow the water back and clear it's self.
earth leakage is quite common on a washing machine and can be repaired. The worrying thing is your safety trip out system should be cutting off your electricity before this happens but it doesnt seem to be working so id get that checked out if i were you
Get someone who knows what they are doing if you must but if more than 10 years old dump it and get another because this is possibly the start of repairs the repairs which ultimately will cost more than a new machine

Washing machine short circuit electrics help please?
My washing machine started this morning but about 20 mins into cycle it tripped the master trip switch and now whenevefr i plug it in it does the same
I have recently had my fusebox moved and my kitchen rewired, could this be the problem, even though none of the other appliances are short circuiting and I have used the machine 5 times since then?
Also I have moved my washing machine out of the room and back again could this be the problem even though I have used it 5 times since then?Washing machine short circuit electrics help please?
You mentioned that the washer tripped the MAIN breaker. At first glance it seems that the total amperage used is greater than the rating of the main breaker. If you have ten 30 Amp breakers, each handling 28 Amps, that is 280 Amps total usage. If the main breaker is a 250 Amp breaker, then it trips.
You can buy an Ammeter for this kind of test, but it might be better to call in a professional. The quick answer; reduce the total load on you system, you save a lot of money that way.Washing machine short circuit electrics help please?
It's not short-circuiting. You've just had a re-wire; ERGO: It's an RCD switch.
It only occurs when the thing is plugged in.
Therefore it's a damaged flex or damp in the washer, or a component is creamcrackerd..
What is it doing 20mins into the cycle; about to start a spin? That indicates a motor/pump fault.
you said you moved the washer you could have pulled a wire off the motor or the water valves. unplug and look around inside the washer you will see a burnt mark if the wire is touching the case easy to see. yes things like this happen all the time.
This suggests that the machine has developed a fault. It might be something simple like a loose wire but I'd recommend calling in a washing machine repairman.

Washed an electric blanket, now it's all oily?
I followed the care instructions on the electric blanket to wash on gentle. I thought the detergent was still all over it, so i rinsed it again, but when I pulled it out and let it air dry I realized it was covered in some really thick oil! Did something burst? Also there seem to be some dark purple smudges on the blanket. I know there was nothing in the washer before I put it in, and there is nothing in there now. I am not sure why this yellow electric blanket is now covered in oil and some purple smears. What do I do now?Washed an electric blanket, now it's all oily?
Did you use HOT water or HOT dryer? That could have melted the wiring inside and caused it to become sticky.Washed an electric blanket, now it's all oily?
Throw it out, something broke. Do not take a chance on something as dangerous as this could be, it might possibly electrocute the user. They are costly, but buy another one.facial peels

I received an electric shock from an unplugged washing machine.?
We experienced a mini-flood when the washing machine drain hose became dislodged from the drain pipe.

My electric blanket needs washing... can I dry it in the electric dryer? Will it shrink?
The instructions on the label have faded so much I can't read the instructions. Have you ever dried an electric blanket in the dryer? How did it turn out? Did it shrink? My electric blanket needs washing... can I dry it in the electric dryer? Will it shrink?
I wash mine 3X a year, and put it in the dryer. Never shrank. It's 9 years old. Hanging won't hurt.My electric blanket needs washing... can I dry it in the electric dryer? Will it shrink?
The Electric blanket has small wires in it , , , , thats Y they call it electric.
If you even wash it in a normal washing machine you might have either seriously shortened its life , made it a health hazard , or it's ' history' already. . .
Wash gently as far as movement is concerned , using something like a soft scrub brush, you can even do it outside, or over a table, or in the tub. Use similar treatment to dry , Leaving it draped flat over a pole , or place several layers of loose cotton towels over a kitchen table and let it hang down all around . Turn over after a few hours. Obviously this would be easy in the warmer climates to do this outside.
Explore other heating options in your bedroom.
Why dont you use resolve for fabrics it work very well! I wouldnt dry it at all in the dryer even though some say you can !
You have wires in there that will eventually dry out and never
work again or could even start a dryer fire!
I would spot clean or just let it be.You can also contact the company that makes it and they will give you a sure answer!
Good Luck!
your friend,

NEVER dry an electric blanket in the dryer. Allow it to air dry. I used to drape mine over my kitchen table and chairs.

What is more damaging to the environment - using a paper towel or electric hand dryer after washing hands?
Even though the latter uses energy, it is not taking up space and most of the hand dryers used anymore are energy-efficient. So, even though they are using energy, it's not a ton. Paper towels have to be made from trees, so there goes some of our oxygen supply, the factories used to cut the trees use more energy than hand dryers, the factories used to make the paper uses more energy than hand dryers (assuming the hand dryer manufacturers' factories are more energy-efficient), and the factories that produce paper are detrimental to our environment, not to mention the paper waste in landfills and the unsanitariness of used paper on the floors in restroom as well as the asthetics of overfilled garbage bins with half-wet paper towels in them are not appealing to the eye at all..... I would say that paper towels are more damaging to the environment. What is more damaging to the environment - using a paper towel or electric hand dryer after washing hands?
Since the hand dryers don't do a good job many people use them and then grab some toilet paper to complete the drying or just keep restarting them till their hands are done.
paper towels btw are made from waste paper. No more trees are needed to make them so all the worries about the factory energy and the cut trees are not valid. What is more damaging to the environment - using a paper towel or electric hand dryer after washing hands?
Paper:
Well the paper towels can be recycled but most don't.
The trees have to be cut down which uses machines that pollute the air. And also have to be put through chemicals and so forth to be made into paper.
Air:
The electrical plants have to pollute the air some how to make all that electricity. How? I am not sure.
But I think with all the stuff you have to do to make paper then I will pick Paper as doing more harm than hand dryers.
I think it's equal - they both cause issues - one uses energy %26amp; the other goes to a landfill - use what you prefer
I just shake my hands dry. LOL. I would say the paper towel are more damaging to the environment.
Hand dryer by far. A paper towel will de-compose. To use an electric hair dryer takes far more energy that is totally in-efficient.
You have to crank up a power plant to produce the electricity. That will involve the use of coal, nuclear or natural gas all with un-desirable features. All of these fuels are 'burnt' to produce heat. That turns a generator which makes the electricity. Then it has to be boosted by a transfomer, sent down the grid, be reduced by another transformer to be used by individuals. You plug in the dryer and you get heat - the same thing that was used to get the electricity in the 1st place. Only it had to be converted at least three times before you could use the dryer.
From what I've read, it is better to use a hand dryer. It is also more sanitary. I either read this in USNews and World Report or Newsweek. Either way, it was several years ago.

My washing machine keeps tripping my electric?
my washing machine has suddenly started tripping the electric today? its done it about 5 times till i gave up and ended up handwashing the clothes thats were in it!
what could be the problem?
washing machine is a servis one and its only about 6 months old?My washing machine keeps tripping my electric?
Maybe it uses to much electricity or you have to many things running at once. Make sure you do not have a coffee pot, iron or hair dryer going at the same time. There maybe a problem with it, if it does this everytime you used it today. You should call the place where you got it %26amp; see if they have any advice or could send some one out to look at it. It should not be doing that. I use my washing machine to do 3 loads of laundry a day %26amp; never have any problems. So there might be something with the machine. My washing machine keeps tripping my electric?
It sounds like it is overtaxing the breaker it is on. Figure out which breaker it is on and how much you have running at one time on that breaker. You might have to turn something else off in order to get your washing machine going. We've been having this problem in our house and the only permanent fix if its the breaker is to install a bigger one or a whole separate one for your washing machine.
do you have heaters or some appliances plugged in that you ussaly don't have? if not then the washer may need repair

Kenmore (Whirlpool) electric washing machine motor quit?
Is this a motor which the brushes can easily be replaced or is it one which needs replaced? The motor did work, but just quit. I've tried repair forums, but they play games with registration or want fees I don't have.Kenmore (Whirlpool) electric washing machine motor quit?
Are you sure its the motor? Are the timer and door switches working. If you careful you can connect motor to power and try if you know electricity. There are used motors are rebuilt ones at local shops and all over the net for decent prices.Kenmore (Whirlpool) electric washing machine motor quit?
it sounds to me like a bad switch or a sticking relay.I have no direct expireance with that type of setup.the hum is indicative of the start windings most washers have a centrifugal switch that feeds the start windings until it gets up to speed then it switches to the run windings.that relay(switch) my be the culprit if it has a start capacitor then that may be bad the reason it hummed and then quit is that you tripped the motor overload that keeps from burning your motor up. If I were you I'd have an appliance tech take a look or at least someone who knows motors

Electric Washing Machines - What are the differences between TOP loading and the FRONT loading types ?
The advantages - electric / water consumption savings / durabilities / good after sales service / and spare parts easily available.Electric Washing Machines - What are the differences between TOP loading and the FRONT loading types ?
Top loaders use more water (and have to move more water weight) than front loaders do. They also can't spin as fast in the spin cycle without jumping all over the place. Generally you use half the water and half the electricity with a front loader that you would with a top loader. Any machine built after 2004 - top or front loader- will have a smaller motor to comply with the government's 2004 energy standard compliance. The truth is, NOBODY knows how long these are going to last because there is no long term data on them yet so they can only make predictions based on short term repair records. I tend to trust the Whirlpool and Bosch brands more because they've been at it longer. An engineering mistake cost Maytag a class action suit that almost bankrupted the company 'til Whirlpool bailed 'em out last year. I bought one in November ( closeout Samsung) and had good luck with it, but I took the extended warrantee even though CR recommends against it. If anything goes wrong for 5 years they have to come in and fix it.Electric Washing Machines - What are the differences between TOP loading and the FRONT loading types ?
A good acceptable answer - Thanks Report Abuse
Front loading is less water usage and better washing of clothes. But the service and spare parts are a matter of brand and manufacturer's choice. But front loading is definitely the way to go to save money.facial peels

Which is most efficient for washing mc hot water from combo boiler(on demand) or heat it's own with electric ?
The only thing you really need to wash in hot water is whites.
It's been proven that cold water washes clothing just as well as warm.. So spare your hot water heater ..use cold whenever possible and save yourself moneyWhich is most efficient for washing mc hot water from combo boiler(on demand) or heat it's own with electric ?
I like the first choice , we need to be more energy efficient .Which is most efficient for washing mc hot water from combo boiler(on demand) or heat it's own with electric ?

Washing machine and dryer tripping the electric?
Any guidance on why when i put on my washing machine and separate condenser dryer on, the electric trips off. Plug from dryer does get hot. Just means washing clothes takes twice as long.
ThanksWashing machine and dryer tripping the electric?
I once had a similar problem. My cooker tripped the electrics every time I cooked pasta. Eventually I discovered that two wires in the back were trapped close together when the cooker backplate was screwed in place. Maybe the plastic casing on the wire was cracked because if the pasta boiled over there was just enough moisture to bridge the tiny gap between the two wires and Bingo! No electrics! By leaving the backplate (aluminium sheet covering the works) off, the wires had more space and there was no problem. I probably should have had the wiring re-done or insulated better but my solution worked for me.
I wonder if your washer has either a leak or steam is escaping and doing something similar with the dryer. Electricians didn't find the fault on my cooker, it was a long slow process of elination on my part after they had given up and scratched their heads - but it saved me buying a new cooker. I would recommend using an electrician if you can for safety's sake though.
LynetteWashing machine and dryer tripping the electric?
You are overloading the circuit.Try unplugging the dryer when washing or vice versa.it sounds as if you may need to update your electrical box.
If it goes off it is a protection mechanism and means there is a problem you have to fix somewhere for your safety. You have to bring someone preferably to check it.
If you have a connection extension, there could be a problem with it. Try changing it. If not then you need to have an electrician come in to check it and if that fails it will means something is wrong with the machine.
The electrical element has most likely corroded due to lime scale causing a short circuit, or a motor fault would cause a RCD to trip.
I would get a maintenance bloke to check it out for safety reasons.
Firstly (if not a moulded plug) take the plug apart to see if it looks to be overheating (brittle strands and discoloured metal/plastic sleeving).
Is it just the one circuit or is it the double-width RCD which trips?
it sounds like you have too much running off of that one breaker and you will probably have to get a larger breaker to handle it all. Good luck!
If you don't have enough voltage to the outlet, it will trip the breaker. I have the same problem. All I do is wash a load, put it in the dryer(don't turn on yet), fill the washer for another load and let the load soak while I dry the first load. I know it sounds like a lot of trouble, but if you don't want to fix the electrical problem, then you have to do something, huh.
If it keeps tripping and the plug is hot, you should not use it. However it could just be a loose wire in the plug, take the back of and check this, even it the wires look OK tightened the screws.
This happened to me. It was a burnt out wire in the washing machine.I had to call out the repair guy and he fixed it.Cost 60 EUR.
Try plugging in to a different outlet on another circuit (use a heavy duty extension cord--just temporarily, mind you)--if the problem does not continue, it's a problem with the electrical service at the house. If the problem does continue, it's your appliance.
In any event, you need to fix that. It's a fire hazard. Take care of yourself now, and don't leave those appliances running unattended.

I have a electric blue settee do you think i should washing it with a machine or canned cleaning spray.?
It is a blue fabric settee i turn it and clean it with the hover all the time but it has come to the stage where i feel it really needs a complete clean now, i've had my suite for 7 years and it is as good now as it was when i brought it but i just feel the blue looking a bit dull and i think it would look better cleaned. I will have to sit down whilst doing it as i am in a wheelchairI have a electric blue settee do you think i should washing it with a machine or canned cleaning spray.?
I think your best option here is a small steam cleaning machine or a bissel little green maching. Just wiping the surface wont get the dust and such from deeper in the fibers. I too am disabled and can do wonders with a little cleaning machine. Good luckI have a electric blue settee do you think i should washing it with a machine or canned cleaning spray.?
just a guess....but to be on the safe side, I'd have it steamed cleaned..too much risk for spotting with a spray especially on your dark blue color.
once i have washed nothing happen but it doesnt mean it is okay. just be carefull it will work.not make short circuted.
a machine would be better the spray could leave stains then you will have a bigger problem.what kind of machine are you planning on using on it i would like to know if it is a steam cleaning machine becareful it does not burn the material.i do not see why you can't just wipe it down with a little vinegar and water with a rag of course that will get it just as clean.

My washing machine keeps tripping the electric in my flat?
what could be wrong? is it not worth repairing? any advice would be helpful thanksMy washing machine keeps tripping the electric in my flat?
In the UK? The trip goes because there is an electrical fault with your machine and to save you from being electrocuted. If the same trip and the same machine were once ok together then there might have been a leak of water onto the connecting block of the machine (where the mains lead goes in) You must get the machine looked at either by an electrician or by a service engineer. My washing machine keeps tripping the electric in my flat?
It is not plugged into an outlet that is meant for that much power. Ask the landlord what outlet is proper, and if he says that its in the right one let him know, this can be a fire harzard. Please be careful a fire in the wall or in a machine is hard for you to get to put out on your own, its dangerous ok.
It could simply be the plug to the appliance - check it out and insert a new fuse - this should blow before your main trip switch to the house does. If this happens, then for sure, there is a problem with the appliance. If it's still on guarantee, call out whoever. Otherwise you might consider a repair job.
If all else fails and you can afford it, buy a brand new machine, but only if your existing machine is more than 5 years old.
gluck
There is either a fault in the machine, i.e. the earth is touching a live part in the machine causing a fault trip or the breaker size needs to be increased.
Get a qualified electrician to look at the plug %26amp; socket, maybe it's not earthed which can be dangerous. Don't use the machine until it's been checked out.
Mine was doing that a year or so ago. It needed new brushes - cost a couple of quid - now good as new.

When is the best time to use yr washing machine for savin the cost of electric bill in North York, Toronto?
Not just North York - any big city. .Aim for off-peak hours. Very early morning hours or late night are good. You're not going to save much on your bill anyway, except that you won't have many appliances (like stove or oven, refrigerator or dishwasher) all running at the same time. You're going to reduce the amount on the city grid by using off-peak..You're also going to compete less for water usage. When is the best time to use yr washing machine for savin the cost of electric bill in North York, Toronto?
Usually after 6 pm.When is the best time to use yr washing machine for savin the cost of electric bill in North York, Toronto?
Summer, you can lione dry outdoors!
At night anywhere cause it puts off heat and makes your AC work harder during the day where as at night it gets a bit cooler and does not have to work as hard to keep your house cool.
I'm in Ohio and I'm able to save roughly $75 a month just by running my major appliances seperate.. I do all my laundry at night..After 9pm I run only the washer/dryer but, not both at the same time.. Usually while the dryer is running I'm soaking the next load.. I also use cold water for everything except whites.. I also run my dishwasher only when there's a full load about every other day (family of 4) and I run it on time delay so it runs around 4am.. I have most of my appliances (tv,vcr, stereo, and game consoles) plugged into surge protector strips that I shut off at night as well as cell phone plugs and lamp.. This saves on things you don't use all the time, but still need.. Change your lightbulbs to CFL's and save roughly $60 a yr. per bulb... I've been doing this for a little over a yr. and have seen a pretty good savings. Good luckfacial peels

Good luck
Why does my washing manchine trip my electric?
hotpointWhy does my washing manchine trip my electric?
is it new? could be overloading the circuit. try removing other things that are on the same circuit, if possible. Why does my washing manchine trip my electric?
Either you are over-loading the circuit or there is an electrical fault in the machine. If you can plug it into a different circuit and the same thing happens it must be the machine.
Where water and electricity are concerned it is best to be safe rather than sorry and call in an electrian.
Sounds like you have a fault on the machine causing the circuit breaker to kick in.
Get a qualified electrician to check it or you could be the one tripping to the hospital.
check there are no loose wires in the plug
Also need to check that the socket its plugged into has enough amps to run the wasking machine, check your manual it should tell you how many amps it need and have a look at the fuse for what amperage it is
It could either be a short in the washing machine or possibly your electrical circuit running to the washing machine won't handle the electrical load your washing machine pulls when it starts.
So you probably have two things you should have checked out: the washing machine %26amp; the house wiring
Mine has just started doing that. It was the main circuit board.
It might not be in your case but must be electrical in order to trip it out. Get someone to check it out.
If not under warranty get a local engineer as it will be much cheaper than calling out Hotpoint. Also check as many won't charge a call out fee.
You have a short circuit .maybe water in the electrics
If you mean it's throwing your breaker then your breaker is probably overloaded. My washer did fine until we remodeled our kitchen and my dishwasher and kitchen outlets got put on the same breaker as my washer. If I ran the washer %26amp; dishwasher at the same time it would throw the breaker, or microwave %26amp; dishwasher, etc. Get someone to check your breaker box and see how many things are on the breaker your washer is on. The electrician who rewired ours said the washer should be on one by itself.
If the unit is old, most likely there is a leak somewhere internally causing a short. I would not run it as it could catch on fire if it's shorting out and tripping the breaker. Even though the breaker trips, it still could be enough time to heat something up and catch on fire. I've seen it happen.
Get a technician out to look it over or tear it apart your self and try to fix it. There is not much to these things but loaded with ';single point failures...';
my advice is check all ur fuses that link ur washin machine to ur electricity supply that is the most common cause

Is it safe to run a washing machine while the electric supply is from an extension lead?
There might be building and safety codes that prohibit this. The reason such codes exist is that extension cords are often too long or made of too small of wire. If your extension is no longer than needed to reach the receptacle and made of heavy enough wire it should be safe. It is also important to ensure that each plug connection makes a snug contact. Anything that causes too much resistance, long wire runs, insufficient wire size and poor connections create heat. Over time the heat can melt or harden the insulation, wear down the components in the appliance or, in extreme cases cause a fire.
If your appliances are covered by warranty you should check with the manufacturer. Some manufacturers may void the void the warranty if an extension is used.Is it safe to run a washing machine while the electric supply is from an extension lead?
The one very important stipulation that has not been mentioned here, is that the coiled extension lead, MUST be fully unwound from the reel.
A coiled lead generates heat, and heat causes fires. Is it safe to run a washing machine while the electric supply is from an extension lead?
Yes provided it's 13 amp rated cable and correctly wired.
Yes as long as its at least a 14 gage wire in the cord and plugged to a ground fault receptacle.
t
yes if your extension is of a heavy gauge ask your local hardware store
I hope so, my washing machines been running from an extension lead for about 8 years!!! lol x

My wife keeps getting electric shocks from our washing machine,?
After it has finished its cycle, this happens when she is in bare feet, the washing machine is in our outside coal shed, is this normal? My wife keeps getting electric shocks from our washing machine,?
You may have a bit of a problem here sunshine or are you trying to get rid of her?My wife keeps getting electric shocks from our washing machine,?
it could just be static
wear some foot wear to avoid static
No it is not ';normal'; there is obviously something wrong with your machine, You need to have it checked by a qualified engineer
Next Question
My wife was electrocuted by our washing machine, should there not have been some sort of warning prior to this happening?
make sure it's earthed right and tell her to wear shoes. i think it's just static but to be on the safe side don't you touch it your wife seems to be able to handle it
Not earthed correctly.
Probably static electrisdcity your bare footed wife is earthing the static built up in the machine With shoes it should not happen .
could be a broken wire somewhere i had a problem like this with my pond and it was a lose wire shortening out it was everytime i put my hand in the water replaced the pump no problems afterwards
No as you very well know getting electric shocks whilst doing our day to day chores is not ';normal';
I'm surprised she ';keeps'; getting shocks...I'd have a new one by the second shock..Get someone in or the machine out
you would need to call an electrician to check it out..........Please let her go to the Laundromat until this problem is solved
did he pull out the dishwasher to make sure nothing is touching a place where the cord is in water. My bunn is leaking and the only time it happens to me is when i don't get the water up before it touches the cord. after i get the water up and away from the cord it does not happen. Pull it out and make sure your not haveing a small water leak behind or under or on side where the power supply is. You may need a plumber.
Good Grief! No it is not normal!!!
this is static without a doubt. you would know if you had a electric shock, trust me.
james is right the earthing connecton has either come apart or a loose connection. you will need to make sure the earth is ok at the socket first. if it is then it is the washing machine. get a electrician in to test the socket then go from there
It sounds like the machine has lost it's earth connection. There might be a fault in the wiring of the machine itself or the socket it is plugged into. I would advise buying a socket tester which you plug into the socket and lights up. this will tell you if the fault is with your electric supply or the machine.
ie - if the lights all come on then there is a problem with the machine, which will mean having to call an engineer out to look at your machine.
I would advise your wife not to go out in her bare feet.
She will still get a shock mind but would be better to wear rubber soled shoes.
or is it you want her out of the way - which in that case pour water over the floor first!!!
That was a joke by the way!
Have fun!
No. not normal. I believe #1 may be your solution.
1) Check if grounding wire is still connected; may have worked loose from a spin cycle. Found in back of machine
%26amp; loose wire will have circle at end of about 5'; wire.
Connect wire to METAL of machine to ground it.
2) check 'cord' to plug in and washer for damage. This would be severe problem with a 220 voltage (this voltage could kill).
3) check for electrical short in internal wires; if not savy on this, call washer repair technician.
4) put rubber mat in front of washer for future.
Perhaps it's time you started doing the washing?
Tell her to stop being so negative.
And lazy @ss husband, ground the damn machine.

Does a dishwasher use a lot of electric? What about a washing machine? Dryer? Computer? What uses the most?
everything you need to know is here:

There are already some really helpful answer here, but a good rule of thumb is that anything with a heating element in it will use more electricity. The refrigerator, if it has automatic defrost, has a heating element. Dryer, stove, hair dryer, heating element on dishwasher, hot water heater, all are heavy users. (unless, of course, some of your appliances are gas) :-)
your AC and stove and the frig use alot ,even your coffee maker if you have one , the rest well uses less . now your hot water heater will use allot of electric as well .

Is it safe to plug a washing machine (110V) in the outlet (with ground) on top of an electric range ?
The outlet is the usual outlet located on top of the electric range. I know it's going to work, I was just wondering if it is safe and if it could damage the range at some point, since the washing machine draws current at high peaks during laundry cycle. Is it safe to plug a washing machine (110V) in the outlet (with ground) on top of an electric range ?
For sure, no problems. It's a 15 amp circuit minimum. Is it safe to plug a washing machine (110V) in the outlet (with ground) on top of an electric range ?
Ranges are on their own circuit and should always be if it is wired correctly.
No worries !

I went to on it 2 times straight away after the water went it..i got electric shocked... what should i do?I was washing my room when suddenly the water went to the electric socket(Powerpoint). What should i do?
I didn't know that padded cells had electric sockets?I was washing my room when suddenly the water went to the electric socket(Powerpoint). What should i do?
I think you should call an electrician
don't ever try to became an electrician. your minor mistake can cause a severe problem. I will suggest you that seal your electric socket by electric tape till your electrician comes.
B carefull.
Call the electrician
If one can not be found.. try turning the power off at the master switch of yor house and dry it out with some toweling or something
Probably best to Call the electrician
Relax, and let it dry out.

Will washing dishes in the sink rather than the dish washer lower my electric bill?
And what are some other tips for lowering the bill? Will washing dishes in the sink rather than the dish washer lower my electric bill?
YES it will!
Get a programable thermostat. Program it to heat or cool less when your not at home.
Use your cloths dryer less. Hang your clothes to dry. Wash and Dry only full loads.
Unplug all those small wall transformers that are not is use. The ones you use to charge your cell phone cameras, and such. They all use small amounts of electricity when even when not being used. Feel the warmer they are the more electricity they are using.
Turn off your lights.
Replace all your incandescent lights with lower power fluorescent bulbs. They generate less heat and use electricity. This will also cut down on the cooling bill in the summer.
Turn down your hot watter heater.
Get a timer for your hot water heater to shut it off at night and when your not at home.
Turn your computer off when it is not being used. Consider cutting it off at the power strip if you have lots of other devices attached. If there are any transformers attached they generate heat(and use electricity) even when the device they power is off.
Set your thermostat a little higher and use a fan or set it lower and wear a sweater.
Use your stove less. This may not be practical all the time. Stoves use a lot of electricity. In the summer the increase in heat will cause your heater to run more.
Change you air filters. A dirty air filter will cause your heating/cooling system to have to run much longer. Your system will have to work harder to force air through a dirty filter.
Use you windows and Drapes effectively. On cold day open the drapes so that the sun can shin in to help heat the house. On warm days pull the draped so your conditioning will be more effective.
Ms.Will washing dishes in the sink rather than the dish washer lower my electric bill?
a dishwasher is by far cheaper to run than washing in the sink, because most dishwashers use 8 gallons or less to wash your dishes. if you have an electric hot water heater the savings will be astonishing. even other types of hot water heater styles will still save you money . other tips are shut off your computer when not using it. shut off lights when leaving a room, switch to fluorescent bulbs instead of incandescent if you don't mind the differant kind of light they emit. unplug any recharging devices if they are not in use, clean the condenser of your fridge and/or freezer, directions should be in the papers you got when unit was purchased keep the lint filter on your dryer clean, change the filter on your oil burner once a month if you have forced air heat, if nothing good is on turn the tv off and read for a while
Even better - save rainwater and use that. Any time a water pump is used - electricity is used. Your hot water is heated either from electricity or gas, and also uses energy. If you live in an area with pressurized water, you won't be using your own electric pump and hence won't be spending extra money,,,,.
yes, not having to use electricty and just water will lower your bill. not a signficant amount.
if you live in a house making sure your caulking on windows is tight and not cracked or pealing. putting door liners to help seal your door. getting those long life light bulbs. dont leave things on or running. close vents, and shut doors to rooms in your house you arent in frequently.... thus preserving the effort your heat has to circulate.
NO, NOT AT ALL I KNOW THIS BECAUSE I'M TRYING TO BECOME A SPECIALIST IN ELECTRICITY AND STATISTICS SHOW THAT WHEN YOU WASH DISHES IN THE SINK YOU ACTUALLY USE MORE WATER AND ELECTRICITY BECAUSE YOU CAN'T WASH THEM IN THE DARK WITH A DISHWASHER YOU CAN LOAD IT AND START IT AND THEN TURN THE LIGHTS OFF AND GO TO SLEEP IF YOU WISH.
It is a proven fact that washing your dishes in the dishwasher saves less water being used, which will save you money. It takes more water to sit there and hand wash dishes than to efficiently put them in the dish washer each time of washing.
IT does depend on how may times you do, but in the long run, it would make the difference if you wash your dishes in the sink than in the dishwasher.
depends on how often you would handwash vs a load in the dishwasher. lower thermostat, take cooler showers, get a he washer/dryer.

Would a washing machine motor power a small electric car?
My friend and I are going to build something like a soapbox car except with an electric engine. I was wondering if a washing machine motor with enough batteries would make it go and to go a reasonable speed, what size of motor would I need. I don't know if this makes sense because I'm new to the whole car - motor thing. Help please!Would a washing machine motor power a small electric car?
a small powerful motor would be the starter from a car. Just get one cheap from a junk yard.Get the batt. cables too while your there. they are already 12 volt so all you have to is get a car batt. to go with it. Get one that was on a big v8 engine so it will be more powerful.Would a washing machine motor power a small electric car?
An ordinary washing machine motor usually requires 110 volts of alternating current and provides from 1/3 to 1/2 horsepower. There should be a plate on the motor stating the power requirement in watts. Watts are a measure of power calculated by multiplying volts x amperes.
Car batteries provide 12 volts of direct current. To run the washing machine motor from car batteries, you would need a device called an ';inverter'; (available from Canadian Tire and various auto parts stores). The inverter would need to be rated at a higher wattage than the motor.
Also the motor turns at quite a high speed so would have to be geared down a great deal to be usable.
A better approach would be to go shopping at a military surplus store for a surplus, low RPM (low revolutions per minute) gear head, 12 or 24 volt motor. Such motors are sometimes used to raise and lower the flaps or wheels on aircraft. They are much better built than a motor for a domestic washing machine and can usually be had quite cheaply..
While you are at the military surplus store, buy yourself a big old rheostat, the bigger the better to control the speed of your car. The other parts you need like sprockets and chain may be scavanged from an old bicycle.
Remember, if your motor is 24 volts you will need two car batteries, hooked in series. That is your motor is hooked (via the rheostat) to the positive terminal of one battery and to the negative terminal of the other. The remaining terminals are hooked together with a jumper.
By the way, it wouldn't hurt to shop around to see if you can find a wrecked or old golf cart cheap. That would give you all or most of the parts you need to build your machine.
Good luck and have fun.
Batteries produce ';direct current'; (d.c.) while washing machine motors require ';alternating current'; (a.c.), so this is going to take a very long extension cord :) or an expensive inverter to run. Also, a typical washing machine motor might be about 1/3 horsepower, which is going to make a pretty slow car. Those are the drawbacks I see.
I agrre with justin.cordless drills are fast and power full.
A washing machine motor is a powerfull motor but its not ideal .
It is an AC motor and you will need a $150-$200 inverter and a couple of car batteries and a car battery charger. and it still will only have about a 20 min charge.
Also it is not variable speed. so unless you can make a transmission it will not work good.
If it was me i would find old cordless drills to use. There are plenty of them out there. you can add up to 4 one on each tire to get the speed and power needed.
a small powerful motor would be the starter from a car.

GE has one of the better single-manufacturer part ordering sites. You will need to find the model number to order from the GE site. The model number should be on a silver label and will be a long string of letters and digits and marked ';model number';. Try looking for the label at the back of the machine just behind the control panel. Be careful to distinguish between zeros versus Os and fives versus Ss when you note down the model number.
Although I've used the GE site to order parts before, I've switched to RepairClinic.com. They have multiple ways of finding parts and have full color pictures of most parts to help you make a positive identification before you buy.
Find the model number of your appliance by checking the owners manual or checking the appliance itself.
this is the link to the parts website

Sears has a lot of these on-line. You can look up the part# and order parts both.

I'm trying to find a value for a 1929 maytag electric washing machine.?
I don't know that there would be a value to one, other than for scrap purposes. If it is in working condition, perhaps the Maytag people would be interested in it. Good luck.

Do front loading washing machines really save on water and electric bills?
We just bought a home and are trying to decide on whether to get a front or top loading washing machine. What are some pros and cons of top/front loading washing machines? What are your experiences? Thanks so much.Do front loading washing machines really save on water and electric bills?
Yeah, it is actually amazing when you look in and see the clothes washing, they are merely just ';soaked'; with water not sloshing around in gallons of it. And yes, as another user said...very little detergent is needed.
For instance, when you wash your new babies' clothes, you will only need to put a couple tablespoons of Dreft (assuming that is what you use :) in for a very large load.
My favorite feature is you can barely hear them running, even during the spin cycle. So, laundry during babies' nap time is a good option. One more thing is that the Kenmore brands have a feature called ';Sensor Dry'; and it knows when all the clothes are completely dry. So there is no need to scorch the crap outa them.
I think they are a really good investment, although I have not seen much of a difference on my energy/water bills. But the tax incentive was nice...ask about that when you buy them!Do front loading washing machines really save on water and electric bills?
They use 50 percent less water and less detergent due to the difference in physics compared to a conventional top loader.
They can also wash more clothes per load and wash things you could never put into a conventional top loader, like comforters, etc..
Steam wash setting is something conventional top loaders don't have either.
They also cause much less wear and tear on your clothes
_________________________
Cons:
However, the initial cost of a front loader is way more than what you'd spend on a conventional top loader. ( 3 times as much). If you are a bachelorette or a bachelor it would probably take you more than 10 years to see the savings, based on difference in energy use. And 10 years is probably longer than a front loader will last, sadly to say. Their life span is not as long as conventional top loaders. Something to think about when you are shelling out $1200 for a laundry machine
They have also been subject to the risk of being maintenance nightmares. When is the last time you remember calling the repair man for your conventional top loader?
My advice to you if you buy a front loader, check the warranty, and buy the extended warranty. And check the brand reputation and product reviews
I've owned both a top and front loader. I much rather prefer the front loader. It does use much less water because it doesn't have to fill the entire machine. It's hard to say if it dropped my power bill because I used the machines in separate houses. Compared to the front loader I can't think of any pros for the top loader.
They use less water but also save the wear and tear on your clothing.I can wash a load of towels and they are almost dry when you remove them from the washer.Front loaders require a very stable floor and will vibrate on a simple plywood floor.
Less water, electricity and detergent are needed.
They are quieter and there is less wear and tear on garments since there is no agitation
Only con is many owners complain of a stale smell. Putting white vinegar in the rinse with your towels solves that problem
They are more efficient, but you probably will never make up for the difference in price with the energy usage. Also the lifespan is much shorter for the frontloaders.

Can i place my freestanding electric oven next to my washing machine?
designing new kitchen layout and am finding it hard to keep dishwasher washing machine and sink close together and have room for oven nearby. Can i place my freestanding electric oven next to my washing machine?
yesCan i place my freestanding electric oven next to my washing machine?
If its a electric oven ..just remember water and elec.do not go well together
Yes you can put your ';stove'; next to your dishwasher. You should keep in mind that the dishwasher needs to be close to the sink for water supply and drain. I not sure if you have a gas or electric stove, but, if it's gas, code states that you cannot put the gas line in the same stud space with an electrical outlet or visa versa.
Sure you can, but when the washer gets off balance it's going to beat the crap out of the oven.
of course just don't wash the asparagus or cook the bloomers

When i press the start button the washing machine it blows the electric trip switch any ideas?
Check the plug and fuse if this doesn't remedy the problem you will need it fixed by a pro but before you do that, get the instructions and look up trouble shooting, in-case it is something very simple! When i press the start button the washing machine it blows the electric trip switch any ideas?
Your trip should be 32amp and your plug fuse for your washer should be 13amp (maximum) so really your plug should go first.
if this is not the case then it could possibly be the RCD that is tripping which means it could be an earth fault. an rcd is like a trip but ussually slightly bigger and has a little test button on it, If it is this then there is possibly a fault with the earthing of your washer. When i press the start button the washing machine it blows the electric trip switch any ideas?
You have a short circuit somewhere in the washing machine. Have a repair man look at it, also plug the machine into a different plug and try it. If it still blows the circuit, then there is something wrong with the machine, if it runs then there is something wrong with that circuit.
Make sure there aren't too many outlets running off that braker if so, maybe try unplugging something. It is probably a short or bad fuse (if u have a fuse box) though, try to talk to a few different electricity companies and see what they think w/o looking at it and compare prices. if they all have similar ideas maybe try looking that up, you might be able to take care of it yourself, or know someone who can help w/o spending the money! Good luck!!
unplug the wall plug and check its ok ie the wires are connected correctly and the correct fuse is in there, 13amp i believe.
if it isnt that call a repair man as its not worth messing about with electriics far too dangerous.
short circuit do you have ,on main switch board,
r.c.d. (earth leakage).
circuit breaker .
may be water condensation
or cockroaches
Power goes through the timer then the water level switch then to the water solenoid valves. One of these has a dead short to ground. Good luck and God Bless.
Some kind of short or earth leakage, possibly the heating element or motor windings.
Get an electrician involved.
you have probably got a splash of water on the solenoid, try drying with a hair-dryer where you turn the dial.

Excellent. And dry them my making them scurry across all hardwood floors and linoleum, get the mopping done at the same time! Can I save money on the electric bill by washing my kids clothes with them while they bathe?
You could, but it doesn't strike me as practical. Try saving by abolishing your electric dryer and hang your clothing to dry. That will really reduce your electrical bill quite a bit. My hotpoint washing machine broke down (trips electric) and I need to get clothes out whilst water in. How ??
It's a Hotpoint 800 de luxe wm 13 and I plan to buy to a new one after getting clothes out, so didn't want to pay a repair man to visit as rather put money towards new one. Any advice please? Thanks!!My hotpoint washing machine broke down (trips electric) and I need to get clothes out whilst water in. How ??
There's a drain tube at the back get a large bowl lower the end of the tube to ground level %26amp; keep end of tube inside the bowl the water will drain out into the bowl then you can openthe doorMy hotpoint washing machine broke down (trips electric) and I need to get clothes out whilst water in. Use a credit card to push the lock open and have something ready to catch the water
If it is a top loader, then you can open the lid and remove the clothing into a plastic bin that is right up against the washer to prevent it dripping water onto the floors. You will need a helper to help you take the bin outside and then you can both wring out the laundry and hang it.
If it is a front loader, you may be able to unplug the unit, wait 1 minute, then plug it back in. It may not actually be broken only need to be reset. If that is not the case and you don't care about breaking it, you can pop the lock and do the same thing I stated above using a bin to put the clothes in. An added thing to do is grab a shop-vac and suck out all the residual water left in the washer, empty the hoses and drag it outside for the city to pick up (or someone to steal and fix at home if possible). You will need to get all of the residual water out regardless of what type of machine it is or it will get stagnate, smell really bad and breed mosquitos.

Vauxhall Tigra 96 - My Sunroof (electric) and the water washing system do not work.?
Are they connected to the same electric system? (Even though the sunroof fuse is fine).
Also, on the key there are two buttons, one to unlock/lock the car, what is the other one for?
Thanks

Test the motor for the sunroof, it could be fried. The washer pump could also be shot . Call your dealer for an owners manual on the vehicle ( good thing to have ) it explains fuses and circuit breakers that supply power to these items. Usually the remote has other features like setting the alarm or flashing the lights so you can find your vehicle in a large parking structure.

from the blanket so would it be ok to put in the washer or what?I have a electric blanket an it needs washed does anyone know how i should do this you can detach the plugs?

I bough a twin size Sunbeam brand electric blanket ,It said on the front of the package ';machine washable';.I washes it at home .It never worked again! I think a front load washer might of help if I had used one of them. But I think its a gamble.
There should be a tag on it telling you how to clean it. I have one that's years old and I machine wash it all of the time Have never had a problem.
Should be a label attached, see what it says. Most are NOT washable.
I wash our electric blanket in the washer all the time. Disconnect the controls. Line dry it.
I have had the same electric blanket for almost 20 years. Just throw it in the washing machine on the gentle cycle and warm NOT hot water and a small amount of detergent. Air dry or put in the dryer on air only, NO hot air.
If you aren't sure then don't for your own safety

I have just received a series of electric shocks while washing potatoes in the kitchen sink. What is this?
First of all, check all wiring around the sink, or all wiring that could be causing the problem.. lol
But the high starch and iron content in a potato allows it to be a conductor of electricity... just think of the childhood experiment of the potato conected to the light globe with the citric acid, it lights up the globe!I have just received a series of electric shocks while washing potatoes in the kitchen sink. What is this?
I heard of a HOT POTATO Now a shocking one??? LOL....
Does your sink have a garbage disposal???? If so maybe have it checked out cause the ground wire may not be hooked up propper! It could cause some serious injuries!!!
or else you cleaned so fast that you caused static to build and the dry air.... and then when you touch the sink you got little shocks!!!I have just received a series of electric shocks while washing potatoes in the kitchen sink. What is this?
u shud definately call a plumber
sounds like a bad wire connection feeding to the sink

Wash face before or after electric-shaving?
I have a face wash I use every morning as part of an acne regimen. I shave with an electric razor -- should I be washing my face before or after I shave?
I've always washed after, because I feel like it closes things up when I'm done, but at the same time, would washing before render my hairs drier and easier to cut? I have difficulties with razor burn and razor bumps with my current method...Wash face before or after electric-shaving?
Shave first but use lots of shaving cream. When I shave my legs I always use shave first and then use a body scrub and I've never had a razor bump problem.Wash face before or after electric-shaving?
Shave after you wash your face...the acid used in the face wash can dry your skin...its best used IN the shower when your pores are opened the most. Also if you wait until after u shower the hair on your face will be softer and allow for a closer shave. Your after shave will help moisturize your skin and stop the irritation from the shave. If you wash your face AFTER you shave your skin is more prone to dryness and irritation.facial peels

Washing an electric blanket?
I have an electric blanket and I've been wanting to wash it. I want to know if there is a special way to wash it. It's not hooked up or anything, I just use it like a regular blanket. I'm just concerned about the heating coils. Do I treat it like a normal blanket or does it still need special care?Washing an electric blanket?
It can be washed on the gentle cycle but I never put mine in the dryer because of the coils. I always hang mine on the backs of chairs to dry.Washing an electric blanket?
If your never going to hook it up, you can wash it like a regular blanket, even toss it in the dryer. But if you plan in hooking it up this winter, then follow the manufactures directs. You can usually find the washing instruction on there website if you have lost the instructions.
Warm water and detergent, but don't put in dryer. Line dry it.
You could wash it but if I had an electric blanket and did not want to get the shock of my life.. I would have it dry cleaned in a heart beat.
Here is a general washing method that might work for you. (However, unless the manufacturer suggests it, never put an electric blanket in a clothes dryer or clean the blanket in a dry-cleaning machine at a self-service laundry.)
To wash, first disconnect and remove any controls from the blanket, then shake it out well.
Now set your washing machine on a gentle cycle with a warm water temperature. When the tub is full, add a mild detergent (no bleach) and let it agitate for a few minutes, then add the blanket and begin timing the wash cycle.
Leave the blanket in for five minutes. Next, turn the setting to a spin cycle to drain the tub, and then to a cold-water rinse-and-spin cycle.
After this is completed, promptly remove the blanket from the washing machine and gently press out excess moisture 鈥?do NOT wring an electric blanket.
Dry the blanket by hanging it over several outside clotheslines or the like to air dry.
READ the instructions that came with it or that are on the little tag. If you don't have the owners manual, then see if you can find a manufacturers name on the tag and look for a website. If all of that fails then I suggest talking to a couple of top notch dry cleaners and see what they suggest.
Washing an electrical appliance, (and that is what you are talking about,) on the surface, sounds like a moronic idea. You don't want to find out later that you did it all wrong, just as the electricity begins to fry your body.
Laundering
Laundering an electric blanket is as easy as
laundering a regular blanket. Follow the specific
manufacturer's care instructions for best results.
Machine wash for a limited period of time; generally
one to five minutes is suggested. Dissolve detergent in
the suggested water temperature before placing the
blanket in the washer; do not use bleach. Evenly
distribute the blanket in the washing machine. Use a
regular cold water rinse and spin cycle. If a
conventional washing machine is used, do not use wringer
to extract the water.
OR
Hand wash by soaking the blanket for 15 minutes in
detergent and lukewarm water. Squeeze the suds through
the blanket. Rinse in cold water at least twice. Do not
vigorously twist or wring the blanket.
Machine dry by preheating the dryer at medium
temperature. Add the blanket and allow it to tumble dry
for ten minutes. Most manufacturers suggest the damp
blanket finish drying by draping the blanket over two
parallel lines. Use both hand to straighten and pull into
shape.

How much electric do a washing machine and dishwasher spend? What countries have cheap electric after 10pm?
Many Thanks for any information. How much electric do a washing machine and dishwasher spend? What countries have cheap electric after 10pm?
Check the wattage rating of your machines. 1kw will use one unit of electricity per hour so a 3 Kw will use about 3 units.
In the UK you can have Economy 7 over night. In the summer it is between 1am and 8am. In winter because the clocks go back and the meter clock is not changed the E7 time is midnight to 7am. The cost in this period is 5p per unit which is a big saving. daytime costs are around 20p per unit. I put my machines on overnight set on a time Switch.

Can u wash electric blankets like normal blankets?
You aren't supposed to. Try washing the blanket alone in cold water on the delicate cycle, and air dry it. That works for me.Can u wash electric blankets like normal blankets?
You can wash them in cold water on the gentle cycle, make sure it is evenly distributed in the washer, you don't want it bunched up. You have to line dry them. Can u wash electric blankets like normal blankets?

Yes, on the gentle cycle. Just don't put it in the dryer!
yes, just make sure that it's plugged in when you do.

obviously, the above is a joke. do not wash any electronic equipment that is not intended to be compatible with water, and especially not while plugged in.

Winterwarm electric blanket washing instructions - does anybody have a copy?
It's a KFF/T6 model and I have lost the instructions. The label shows the usual symbols but refers to the manual too. They have no website and a quick web search comes up with the company that makes industrial space heaters.

Remove the cord, wash in warm water on perm press cycle, and either dry on perm press, or hang. Been doing mine like that for 4 years.

What is the best time of the day to wash and dry clothes. We have an electric dryer.?
Best time for you or best time for the utilities.
The load on the grid is the lowest at night so it would help them out if you did your washing at night after most people have gone to sleep. But unless you have a smart meter, the utilities will charge you the same rate regardless of when you do your wash.
Consider getting a gas dryer, they're faster and current natural gas prices are a bargain compared to electricity prices.

Can you put electric stove burners in a sink full of water to wash them?
no, you cannot wash them. just wipe them off and run them really hot to burn anything else off. i think that they are like an enamel coated graphite coil and putting them under water will mess up the coating. if the coating is messed up, they would short out when you put the pot or pan on them. Can you put electric stove burners in a sink full of water to wash them?

If you are talking about the burners themselves ...washing them will not do as good as using them. You will never be able to wash of what the heat won't burn.
If you are talking of the thingy ma jiggys underneath the burners, washing them with a brillo pad may work but as above said, just buy new ones.
Yes, just dry them really good before you plug them back in.
yes,its perfectly ok to wash them in the sink full of water. just make sure to dry them off good b4 using them
NO use a damp cloth with a mild detergent to wipe, then rinse cloth and wipe, repeating until there is no more soap.
no it is best to just buy somemore

I have had a regular sears stackable and it is gas ..worked well but now that I have to buy a new unit I saw this and thought this looked really cool..any help much appreciated!!Need info on the LG Wash/Dry combo. Is it reliable, quite and mostly economical since it is electric?
I drove a propane truck and delivered gas to homes that had gas appliances for almost three years. We called you gas users that had gas dryers our money makers because we got payed on commission and we new how much gas you would be using. Gas dryers and gas furnaces always put a big smile on my face and money in my pocket. My advice to you is to buy the Electric combo. Also their is a rebate program going into effect for a big rebate kind of like the Cash for Clunkers but it is for appliances. Buy the ones with the energy Star on them and really save.

What time should i wash my clouth to save my electric bill?
I wash a load of clothing BEFORE bedtime AND dry it when I get up around 5:30pm or have my husband put the clothes in the dryer when he gets up for work....
What also saves money on the electric bill is NOT using more than ONE major appliance at a time.... So, if you are doing laundry either use the WASHER or the DRYER but, not at the same time! Or running the dishwasher while either washer/dryer is running! I'll generally SOAK the next load of clothing while the dryer is running....The clothes come out cleaner/brighter and pretreaters work better! My electric bill has gone down from $114.00 per month--- $80 per month just by doing this!
I also try NOT to dry clothes when the air conditioner is on- since it ';heats'; up the house... AND I hang dry items like jeans, pants and heavy weight shirts.... I run a small fan to circulate air around the laundry room!
Using small appliances like crockpot and toaster oven use up a lot less energy than using the full size stove/oven...
good luckWhat time should i wash my clouth to save my electric bill?
Depending upon your electric company. Some will charge you less for electricity during non peak usage like in the early morning hours. Some charge the same no matter what time of day. You need to contact your company to clarify the issue. What time should i wash my clouth to save my electric bill?
Your machine is not ever going to use less electricity.
The only reason to do your laundry at a different time, i.e. evenings, is to reduce the load on the electric grid.
during the early mornings before 6 am on weak ends to that the, normally people would not wake up that early and washing machine would also consume less electric bill
whenever but dont use the washing machine to much that should save you electric
In non peak hours, better during day.
all time costs the same
